Itinerary : Dana Biosphere Reserve  -  Wadi Feid  -  Petra  -  Aqaba  -  Amman  - Beida - Feynan - Wadi Barwas - Shkaret Masei’d
Price from : 1100.00 USD

In this 9 days tour, you will have 5 days of hiking non-stop and you will spend the night in camps and lodges, hidden in wide landscape. This adventure will lead you from the nature reserve of Dana to Petra, the most famous site in Jordan. Finally, you will rest in the seaside resort of Aqaba.

Day 1: Arrival at Queen Alia International Airport – Amman
Our representative welcomes you at Queen Alia International Airport and assists you through the formalities of immigration and customs. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Amman, where you will spend the night.

Day 2: Amman – Dana – Feynan.
Distance: 12km (7.5m) starting from Dana Village,
Time:     5/6 hrs starting from Dana Village,
Altitude: 850meters (1/2mile) descent.

The trail starts with a beautiful well-trodden path between the Rummana Campsite (Dana Nature Reserve) and the Dana village orchards. You get around the huge escarpments of the Wadi Dana (Wadi = canyon), along impressive white sandstone domes overlooking some beautiful views down into the reserve underneath. You can clearly see the trail ahead almost all the way down to Wadi Araba. After the orchards of Dana village you walk down a disused 4x4 trail snaking its way down Wadi Dana which has not been used since the Dana Reserve was established! You end our day enjoying the Romantic atmosphere of the Feynan Lodge.

Day 3: Wadi Barwas – Ras el Feid.
Time: 6/7 hrs Altitude: 700m (2300 ft) ascent, 250m (820 ft) descent
Drive to Wadi Barwas Distance: 9km (5.5m)

This morning you will spend two hours walking along the stony desert on the western side of the Sharah mountains, until you reach the trail head of a well-trodden Bedouin migration path. Walking where the Bedouin once travelled on their nomadic journey you head up along a shaded gully full of centuries old Juniper trees. Breathtaking vistas of Wadi Araba desert below, with many outlets of Wadis and sand dunes in the horizon! Once you reach the top of the gully you can see lush greenery down below. Snaking its way around the mountains opposite is tomorrows trail; you will be impressed by the never-ending change of scenery! At the spring you break for lunch with a chance to wash up and refresh using much welcome cold spring water. After lunch you walk up the Wadi along an ancient aqueduct overlooking thick dense vegetation in the Wadi bed below. The birds singing and trees swaying make this feel like a tropical paradise! After walking up a mostly dry Wadi bed through a colorful gorge, you arrive at your camp for the night.

Optional: Walking day from Feynan Lodge to Wadi Barwas, instead of transferring by jeep between these two stations. The walk will be in the desert, and its main interest is to allow you to make the whole tour hiking only.

Day 4: Ras el Feid – Shkaret Masei’d.
Distance: 16km (10m)
Time:     8/9 hrs
Altitude: 170m (560 ft) ascent, 150m (490 ft) descent, 300m (985 ft) ascent

Today is the most scenic day of the hike, but you have to work hard for some astonishing views into the remotest wildest corners of Jordan. It is your chance to see the elusive Ibex if you tread lightly and keep your eyes peeled! Contouring the Sharah Mountains, today you follow a trail of mostly clear Bedouin shepherd trails. On the remotest sections of the trail you are on less taken and hence harder to identify hunters’ paths. The sheer peeks of black mountains overlooking our trail and steep precipitous drops of the canyons below make this day absolutely spectacular! With lunch taken in the shade of a steep colorful sandstone overhang, overlooking the mountains in the distance and canyons below, you will find yourself contemplating the reason of creation in this stunning landscape. In the afternoon you take a long gentle uphill up to the saddle of the infamous “conical hill” where you will be rewarded with a view worth one million dollars worthy of the effort you made today!

Day 5: Shkaret Masei’d – Beidah.
Shkaret Masei’d – Beidah Distance: 14km (9m),
Time:     5/6 hrs,
Altitude: 150m (500 ft) ascent, 250m (800 ft) descent.

Just around the corner today you enter yet another different landscape, with agricultural fields farmed today by the local Bedouins like their ancestors the Nabateans did two thousand years ago. Up a Juniper filled gully used by the locals for camel breeding, you are surrounded by eerie white sandstone domes looking at us with empty eye sockets! Our first glimpse of Petra will be Aaron’s tomb in the horizon overlooking the Nabataean capital Petra. Today you walk down to the campsite for a change along one of the last remaining juniper forests in Jordan. But before you head to camp, you have the chance to visit one of the suburbs of Petra, today called “Little Petra”, for a taste of what is to come tomorrow! At this small site you take a glimpse into ancient Nabataean trade and camel caravans. Then you head to your campsite which is owned by the Ammarin Bedouin cooperative society, a locally run campsite which benefits the Bedouin of the Ammarin tribe. Uniquely nested in a gully surrounded by Sandstone Mountains, the campsite provides us with the luxury of hot showers and electricity! Here you can charge your cameras for the big day ahead, walking into Petra!

Day 6: Beidah – Petra.
Distance: 6km to the Monastery, 5/6km inside Petra total 12km; (3.5 miles to Monastery, 4 miles inside
                 Petra, total 7.5miles),
Time:     3/4 hrs to Monastery, 5/6 hours inside Petra,
Altitude: 110m (360 ft) ascent, 100m (330 ft) descent, 100m (330ft) ascent.

Walking past some Bedouin encampments you are getting closer and closer to Petra, just around the Sharah Mountains overlooking Wadi Araba. You are reminded of the Great Rift Valley you have been walking with even more majestic views all the way down to the desert of Wadi Araba where you started a few days ago! Today’s path is a popular trail which gets us back into reality that you are not the only people here, contrary to the solitude of the past few days. Turning around one corner and suddenly it reveals itself with all its beauty and grandeur, the Monastery of Petra, WOW! Definitely worth every drop of sweat! After celebrating our arrival at the Monastery you feel sorry for all those tourists who are trickling into the site having just walked out of their bus! The rest of the day is spent exploring everything Petra has to offer, walking down from the Monastery you can see the Royal Tombs, Qasr el Bint, the Mountain Ridge Church, the Great Temple, Royal Tombs, Urn Tomb, the unique Theatre, Street of Facades, and of course the infamous Treasury. Today you will realize how unique of a site Petra is, and why you have walked here rather than clambered from a bus. Congratulations, you have just trekked to Petra!

 Day 7: Petra – Aqaba.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Aqaba, the seaside resort where fantasy, sun and sea meet the charms and atmosphere of Antiquity. The wonderful adventure of its amazing hike you just had makes you deserve a little rest alongside the Red Sea. You can enjoy the many activities offered in Aqaba, taking advantage of its clear water and its high quality sand. You will for example be able to relax in its water and to discover its numerous colorful fishes, through a glass boat tour, a dive, snorkeling…

Optional:

  • Glass boat tour;
  • Scuba diving;
  • Snorkeling.

Day 8: Aqaba – Amman.
After breakfast, take your time and enjoy the sunny beaches of Aqaba. Late afternoon you will be transferred back to Amman for your last night in Jordan.

Day 9: Amman – Departure from Queen Alia International Airport.
After breakfast, our representative will accompany you to the international airport of Amman and will assist you through the last administrative formalities for your final departure.
